Regulated Medical Waste

The Regulated Medical Waste Program was created to comply with all State and Federal Regulations dealing with the safe transport of regulated medical waste (RMW). This is a campus wide program serving both on and off campus facilities. RMW and carcass materials are collected and transported to the College of Veterinary Medicine. Carcass material is then incinerated and the RMW is prepared for shipment to a treatment facility.

Day to day management of this program involves container selection, scheduling of campus routes and back-ups, weekly transport of RMW, container decon, data entry following weekly transport, and customer follow-up. RMW is collected from facilities on Monday and Thursday mornings. The volume of RMW generated determines a lab or buildings placement on the schedule, with all call in requests being picked-up on Thursday mornings.
