Research with Microbes and Cell Lines
Principal investigators who wish to conduct research involving microbial agents or cell lines are required to register with the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). The IBC maintains information regarding the use of biological materials at Cornell University. This includes but is not limited to microorganisms, cell lines, human materials, animals, plant materials and toxins. The Principal Investigator must certify the accuracy of the information on file with the IBC on an annual basis. The IBC must be notified if there are changes in a research protocol, material usage, room changes or changes in staff.
EHS Laboratory & Research Safety Group provides technical support, compliance assistance, removal and proper disposal of Chemical, Radiological and Regulated Medical Wastes on campus. These services are also provided for a number of outlying Cornell University facilities.
In-depth information on waste management can be found in the various manuals and information links found on this web page.
