General Environmental Management

General Environment Management is often two fold.

  • Environment Health and Safety regularly conducts pro-active site assessments at all Cornell University Facilities. This is to ensure regulatory compliance, provide safe work environments, and reduce or eliminate potential harmful impacts to the environment.  These assessments include various Cornell University outlying research facilities.  All environmental media as well as occupational health and safety issues are reviewed.

  • Unfortunately though, sometimes reactive approaches are needed since accidental releases of petroleum, toxic chemicals, gases, and other hazardous materials occur.  Even small releases have the potential to endanger public health and contaminate groundwater, surface water, and soils.  The Environmental Health and Safety Office is responsible for Incident Response which includes internal procedures for complying with federal, state, and local regulations for responding, reporting and remediating releases to the environment.
