A person who offers a hazardous material for transportation must provide an emergency response telephone number accompanied by company name and/or contract number for use in the event of an emergency involving the hazardous material. This number must be monitored at all times the hazardous material is in transportation including storage. The number must be entered on the shipping paper in a clearly visible location and indicated that the number is for emergency response information.

Cornell University has a contract with INFOTRAC to provide the 24-hour emergency response coverage for hazardous material shipments. To maintain this coverage Cornell must provides INFOTRAC with SDS information for all hazardous materials that are not common chemicals (i.e. Ethanol, Sulfuric Acid). This would include many infectious substances, lab developed materials and waste mixtures.

In order for INFOTRAC to provide coverage for hazardous materials that are not common chemicals, your material must be on the SDS list. If your material is not on the SDS list, you MUST contact EHS (DOT Specialist) before you ship and provide them with a copy of the SDS or equivalent chemical and emergency information.
