Biological Safety Manuals and Other Documents

The University Biosafety Written Programs and quick reference tips sheets establish basic practices, procedures, and expectations in order to conduct safe biological research at Cornell. Use these items together with the other resources developed by EHS. Minimum requirements for training for laboratory access are captured in the Laboratory Safety Manual and Chemical Hygiene Plan. Minimum requirements for Personal Protective Equipment usage are in the Personal Protective Equipment Written Program

Biosafety Level - 1 and -2 Written Program

The Biosafety Level 1 & 2 program assists laboratories working with certain infectious agents to identify the hazardous and to provide a guide for the selection of appropriate biosafety levels and microbiological practices, safety equipment, and facility safeguards.

Biosafety Level 3 Written Program

The Biosafety Level 3 program assists researchers working with infectious and other biological agents that must be handled at Biosafety Level 3.  The program guides researchers as to specific requirements for work at Biosafety Level 3. ​​July 2021: the IBC process in the BSL-3 Written Program is currently being revised.
