1.1 Chemical Hygiene Plan Accessibility
The OSHA Laboratory Standard requires the Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) to be readily available to employees, employee representatives, and, upon request, to the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, U.S. Department of Labor, or designee. Laboratory personnel working with hazardous chemicals must know how to access the CHP, be familiar with its contents, and be able to produce it for state or federal regulatory inspectors upon request. While a hard copy may be maintained in the laboratory, electronic access is acceptable and encouraged.
Principal Investigators and laboratory supervisors are responsible for ensuring that personnel working in laboratories under their supervision are informed of the location and contents of the University Chemical Hygiene Plan and understand how it is implemented through laboratory-specific procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and any applicable department- or college-level laboratory safety manuals, policies, or procedures.
